City of Edmonton – Expired permits
“Across the City of Edmonton, signs are a growing part of today’s busy commercial landscape. Signs play an important role in almost every commercial and industrial field. Few industries are advancing as quickly technologically, or growing as quickly in number, as the sign industry. As a key player in this industry, we want to remind you of Development Permit requirements relating to signs in the City of Edmonton.
As you are aware, signs require Development Permits. Development Permits for Off-premises Signs generally expire after five years, and as those Development Permits expire, a new Development Permit is required.
The City is ensuring compliance with Zoning Bylaw 12800 through the Development Compliance Unit. Any expired signs will be subject to enforcement action. Please note that ticket amounts have increased as of May 2, 2016, and tickets now start at a minimum of $1,000.00.
Beginning July 15, 2016, the City will be undertaking enforcement actions, including issuing tickets, for signs with expired Development Permits. Please ensure all expired signs have Development Permit applications submitted to the City on or before this date”.
