About Neon: Audio Visual
Neon: Audio Visual is an exhibition that explores the medium of neon through an audio and visual sensory journey. What place does neon have in the built environment? How does neon help us communicate, navigate and landmark throughout our city? How are we (the public) affected by neon? These are just a few of the questions the exhibition seeks to answer. Typically, neon is used to make road-side signage; its high visibility makes it an ideal advertising medium for car and consumer culture interrelating them closely. However, testing our relationship with neon language and light, three Albertan artists; Dick Averns, Don Hill and Neil Martin, expand on the medium outside of the advertising realm and approach it from alternative perspectives.
